Sermon Series
7 Last Words of Christ, March-April, 2022
Our last words are often our most memorable. Join us as we walk the Via Dolorosa, or The Way to the Corss with Jesus this Lenten season. Hear the final 7 words of Christ and consider their impact on us still today. Partially based upon a book by the same title by Rev. Adam Hamilton, be sure to join us each week in Lent as focus on greater depth in our faith journey.
March 2 (Ash Wednesday): Don't miss this powerful beginning to the Lenten season where we share in Holy Communion, receive the ashes, and receive a breath of fresh air for our souls as we remember Jesus separates our sin as far as the east is from the west. (Pastor Rob preaching)
March 6: We begin our journey by looking at Jesus' steps toward the cross and his first words, "Father, forgive them, for they know now what they do." Forgiveness is a challenging topic for us. Join us as we work to understand it through a Biblical lens. (Pastor Rob preaching)
March 13: Jesus' second words were, "Today, you will be with me in paradise." As he spoke to the convicted criminals on each side, Jesus offers this promise. Ginny Eggleston is a seminary student and attendee at Nampa UMC. She'll bring a message that will bless us today!
March 20: Jesus spoke the third words from the cross, "Behold your son...behold your mother." (Pastor Rob preaching)
March 27: Jesus' fourth words from the cross were, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" Our own Rev. Gene Hill will offer a message today.
April 3: Jesus' fifth words from the cross were, "I Thirst." Our own Rev. Gene Hill will offer a message today.
April 10: Jesus' sixth words from the cross were, "It is finished." (Pastor Rob preaching)
April 15 (Good Friday): On this holy evening, beginning at 6pm, we'll walk through each of the 7 words and close our time together with holy communion as we commemorate the death of Jesus. We'll consider Jesus' final word, "Into your hands I commit my spirit." (Pastor Rob preaching)
April 17 (Easter): Invite a friend to join you as we offer 2 identical services at 9am and 11am. Together, we'll celebrate a risen Jesus Christ as we consider the final word from the cross, a word of victory over the grave.
You Fools, February, 2022
Every year, we'll embark on a study of one full book in the Bible. This year, we'll consider Paul's challenging letter to the Galatian people he called, "foolish." Who were they? Did Paul "whitewash" the people when he said "no longer Greek or Jew, slave or free, male or female?" Why did Paul share the "fruits of the Spirit" with the early church? Why does it matter and how can this ancient text apply to us today?
February 6: We begin our series with Pastor Rob offering an introduction to Galatians. Who were these people? What is Paul's main theme? Why does it matter to us? Join us as we tackle some of the divisiveness in our world today through an ancient lens. Miss it? Watch Classic or Contemporary anytime, just choose the right week from the drop down.
February 13: Paul spoke directly to the ethnicity of persons in the early church. Our director of music, the Rev. Gene Hill, will share a message today addressing the statement Paul makes to the Galatians about "You are no longer Jew or Greek, male or female, slave or free." Learn more about this important statement and how it applies to us today.
February 20: It is United Methodist Women's Sunday, a day we celebrate the strong female leadership in the life of the church and beyond. Rochelle Killett, a previous lay appointed pastor who serves as our UMW president will share a strong message from Paul's letter to the Galatians.
February 27: Pastor Rob returns to the pulpit to dig deeply into the "fruits of the Spirit," a challenge for us to live in peace with each other today but not just roll over when injustice occurs. Join us in worship as we close our series!
God at the Movies, January, 2022
Each week, we'll use some of our favorite movies to illustrate basic truths from scripture. We'll consider what it means to love the "outcast," to serve the community, to love people as they are, and consider where God is in prayer. We'll use our favorite movie clips during the sermons and then run the full length movie, free for the community, and complete with popcorn at 5:00pm each Sunday in January.
January 2: We are so polarized today. Who is your "other" and how do we find common ground in Jesus? Movie is Beauty and the Beast.
January 9: We are desparate to belong...to belong to God, to a community that loves us, and to each other. What did Jesus teach about belonging? Movie is The Lego Movie.
January 16: How do we identify and serve "the outcast" as Jesus commanded? Movie is The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
January 23: Do you struggle with prayer? Does God answer prayer? How do we grow in our prayer life in 2022 and what did Jesus teach about prayer? Movie is Bruce Almighty, but there will also be a children's movie at the same time.
January 30: We spend so much time caring for others as Jesus called us to do, but how do we truly care for ourselves in a broken world? Movie is Inside Out.
NOTE: All movie clips and full length movies are used in compliance with from CVLI.com, a licensing provider for churches to use major motion picture clips and full length movies. In other words...it's all legit! :)
