Requirements and Application Process
Requirements for every church position...
Love Jesus, love people, and love connecting them together.
Be commited to affirming all persons of all ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, etc.
Be willing to teach/lead with a United Methodist understanding of faith (we can explain more, but we believe in grace, not fire and brimstone)
Free of a criminal background. If you have questions about how this might apply in your case, just ask us. We'll be honest.
Be actively growing in your faith through weekly worship attendance. This requirement can be fulfilled here at Nampa First UMC or in another church environment. Even if you attend another church, there may be occassional times where you are needed here on a Sunday.
Up to date vaccines including state-madated vaccines for staff working with children. COVID is required for all staff.

Screening Interview: If your resume and application seem to be a good fit, we'll contact you for a screening interview via zoom. This will be a short interview with you and our pastor or a staff member to answer any questions you have and learn a bit more about you.
In-Person Interview: After your screening interview, if you seem like a great fit and are interested, we'll set up an in-person interview with our pastor, a staff member, and potentially a volunteer leader. This will be where we dig deeper into how you are called to this position.
Conditional offer: If you are selected, you'll be given a conditional offer of employment. Before beginning your role here, you'll need to meet the following conditions...
Reference check: We'll contact previous employers for feedback on your performance.
Submit evidence of vaccination status: The church requires vaccination for most common illnesses unless medical reasons prevent you from being vaccinated. This includes the basics like tetanus and COVID-19.
Employment offer: Once it's determined that you meet the requirements, you'll be invited to start work and begin a training period. It's at this time we'll confirm your salary and schedule.
Training period: One you begin training, you will be paid for your time but long-term employment will depend on you completing these steps in the first few week training period:
Safe Gatherings (first day of work for all staff): This is the denomination's training and background check process for child protection. We will pay your fee to do this and ask you to complete it at home.
ICCP Background (preschool only): If you are working in the preschool, the state will require you to complete a state background check in addition to what Safe Gatherings did.
Pediatric First Aid/CPR (preschool only): If you are working in the preschool, the state will require you to complete Pediatric First Aid during this time frame.
Current Open Positions
Student Ministry Staff
Role: Student Ministry is all about leading young children and their families to Christ! This role involves a combination of serving in our Kid's Stuff Ministry as a preschool teacher (see below) along with working with preschool and elementary aged children on Sundays in our age-specific programs during the 11am worship experience.
Time Commitment: Staff will be assigned to a full time role that includes Sunday mornings, plus all day on Monday through Thursday. You'll have Friday and Saturday off, with the exception of some church-wide special events like Easter Extravaganza and Parent Night Out throughout the year.
Compensation: Full time student ministry staff receive a salary competitve with the local school district beginning teachers.
The best person: Will have experience working with children in a church setting. Prior experience as a Sunday school teacher is helpful, but not required. You should be comfortable sharing faith with children, detail-oriented, kind, and able to manage children with grace. Most importantly, you should be an upbeat, positive person who loves kids and loves Jesus. (in addition to the requirements for all staff positions listed above)
Kid's Stuff Teacher
Role: As a teacher in Kid's Stuff, you'll create age-appropriate lessons for children (with help if needed), utilizing both Ebecca and Christian lessons. You'll love, care for, and keep safe all our kids and communicate well with parents.
Time Commitment: Staff will be assigned to a full time or part time shift between Monday and Friday between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm. Staff in this role may be sent home early if there are not enough children to maintain a full staff. Beyond these hours, some staff meeting, training, and church-wide event participation like Easter Extravaganza and Parent Night Out will be required.
Compensation: Kid's Stuff teachers are paid at an hourly rate that is roughly $15 per hour but compensurate with experience and availability. Full time and part time roles are available.
The best person: Will have experience serving in a structured childcare setting but we would also consider someone who has worked with children as a parent, babysitter, Para, etc.
Production Lead
Role: You'll be the wizard pulling the levers behind the scene, but unlike the movie, your levers will work. You'll manage all areas of production (sound, graphics, lights, streaming) with support from a volunteer team you recruit, train, and schedule to help you. You'll be present in the booth to ensure rehearsals, worship, and special events go super well in person and online.
Time Commitment: This is an average of about 10 hours per week. You'll be at the church twice a week, including Tuesday evening rehearsals and Sunday mornings. A few special services, like Christmas Eve and Easter, may fall on non-Sundays. Some participation in staff meetings and church-wide special events may be required as well.
Compensation: Part-time, exempt. Salary negotiated based on certifications and experience, but will be in the area of $10,000. Any compensation beyond that for funerals and weddings would be in addition to your salary.
The best person: Will be very detail oriented, people-friendly, and a good volunteer recruiter and trainer as you'll the the only staff member on an all-volunteer team. We are an all MAC environment so, the very best person will be familiar with the following...
Sound: Q32 console (and IPad apps) and an X32 console (with Ipad apps)
Graphics: ProPresenter 7 for Mac (with Ipad apps)
Lights: DMX lighting system managed by hard-wired console and MIDI-cues from ProPresenter 7 for Mac
Streaming: PTZ Optics cams, Blackmagic Mini-Atem Pro Switcher, Boxcast streaming provider with simulcast to Google Sites, YouTube, and Facebook
Websites utilized: Planning Center Online, CCLI Song Select, Zoom, and Mentimeter
It is not necessary to be fully familiar with every item on this list. However, you should be a quick study when it comes to technical and computer-related work (on a Mac). If you are comfortable learning, we can help teach you, provided you have some experience and a high comfort level with computers.
Handbell Choir Director
(can be combined with Sanctuary Choir)
Role: The Handbell Director leads our new handbell choir from September through May. If you love English Handbells, you'll benefit from tables with custom covers, 3 octaves of Schulmerich Handbells in good condition, and 2 octaves of choir chimes. The task is to grow the bell choir from the existing dedicated members to a larger, thriving choir through weekly rehearsal and roughly monthly worship leadership.
Time Commitment: This is about 3 hours per week. Tuesday evening rehearsal is currently at 7:30 pm but may be moving to Wednesday evening. Sunday mornings, once a month, on a day to be selected are included. Special Sundays like Easter and Christmas Eve are also included.
Salary: Compensation will be a stipend which can be used as salary or as as scholarship to school
The best person: Will have experience as a handbell ringer and preferably as a director. We are happy to hire a music student who is working toward a degree or looking to take a leadership role for the first time. (in addition to the requirements for all staff positions listed above)
Sanctuary Choir Director
(can be combined with handbells)
Role: The Sanctuary Choir Director leads our 18 person vocal choir from September through May. If you love leading worship, you'll benefit from energy and commitment of this team with room to grow. The task is to grow the bell choir from the existing dedicated members to a larger, thriving choir through weekly rehearsal and roughly bi-weekly worship leadership.
Time Commitment: This is about 3 hours per week. Tuesday evening rehearsal is currently at 6:30-7:30pm but may move to Wednesday evenings in the near future. The choir leads Sunday mornings, roughly twice a month, on a day to be selected. Special Sundays like Easter and Christmas Eve are also included.
Salary: Compensation will be a stipend which can be used as salary or as as scholarship to school
The best person: Will have experience as singer and preferably as a director. We are happy to hire a music student who is working toward a degree or looking to take a leadership role for the first time.
